Dear Pete Your playing is a constant source of inspiration. It's not just the technical virtuosity of your playing, it's the richness of your musical ideas and your sensitivity to the musicians you play with. Your accompaniment of LeAnn Rhimes on the YouTube video is masterful and should be studied by aspiring session musicians everywhere. Hope you are keeping well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Toronto

Pete, I doubt seriously that you'll remember me. I took guitar from you back in 1997/8 in the back room at Cotten Music. I only recently stumbled across you on YouTube after hearing you on the radio. I remembered your first name but I'd forgotten your last name. I often told friends of my teacher. I was forced to put down my Guitar in 1998. It was consuming me and my career was going down the toilet. Yesterday I bought my first guitar in 18 years. I've named her 'God's Promise'. I expect to reclaim my earlier skill and use it in bridges but plan to focus on a more rhythmic playing style (easier on my 60 year hands) that won't get in the way of my voice. Its not a great voice but I don't care. I don't have to make a living anymore. I can do it for love. I was saddened to hear of your heart condition. I'll remember you in my prayers. I believe God listens to me. Truly. In hope that you may remember me Kim sold me a sunburst Collins C10. She convinced me that it's voice was beautiful. It truly was. However it had the narrow neck and standard body so it was bright but not big sounding. My main guitar was a Grand Auditorium Taylor Limited edition, Cedar Top, Mahagony back and sides. You took delivery of what later became Collins Pete Huttlinger Signature series during one of my lessons. I remember you asked me why I chose the Collings C10. Although you were kind enough not to say it I believe you knew it was not a good guitar for me. I did not even think to ask your opinion while I was making my decision. I have no idea why I didn't except maybe I was dumb. Duh. I just wanted to say hello. Hello! I think what you seem to be doing is wonderful. Ive purchased a guitar I only learned about recently but it seems to be creating quite a stir. It is a Zager ZAGCEOM. If you are interested and send me an email I'll forward you a link of Jimmy Boyd flying across this guitar's neck behind stage. Someone he knew handed him the guitar and asked his opinion. He was dumb founded, as was I when I saw how he played it. I didn't know acoustics could ever be played as fast and the best electric guitars until this display. It has the Cedar top like my GA Taylor but also has Indian Rosewood back and sides. Lots of people in Nashville seem to be recording with this guitar as it produces a really big rich sound without over powering the mic.. Mine will have Fishmans Aura electronics. And, though I haven't yet received it I am expecting it to be something transending conventional acoustic guitars. I am very excited. In my past life I attacked the strings well with all 5 fingers of my right hand. I tried to play electric guitars but found their touch so light that I almost ripped the strings off. Watching Jimmy's performance back stage on the couch I realized this quitar's action was more like an electric than an acoustic guitar and, while capable of producing a big punchy noise, I am going to have to approach this guitar more as an electric than as an acoustic guitar. I'll need to get a small amplifier so I can redevelop my motor memory with a very lite touch. This decision is very emotional to me as I am spending way more than I probably should for my first guitar after such a long absence but I think I am worthy. I know how to retrain my hands and the light action may enable me at 60 to play as well as I did back in '98. The Zager's website has so many YouTube links to great artists getting their first impression of these guitars that I believe it has to be true. You see, they will not sell through guitar stores but take all orders direct. My guitar, if it lives up, should cost double, even triple, the 1500.00 I am spending. This includes case. If you have interest in hearing how it turns out, and if it proves to be as good as these guys have convinced me it will be, I'll drive down to Nashville to say hello and bring my new Ax for you to play. I'd love to hear it in masterful hands. My email address should be registered with this. My primary reason for writing was to simply say hello and hope you may recall me. If not, I'd be flattered if you lied to me and stoked my ego.

I've been a fan for years and have most of your albums and books/videos. Thanks for the transcriptions. For hacks like me they are a real challenge. One request though. Your arrangement of "Isn't She Lovely" is fantastic. Is it possible you could let go of the complete version? There's a Guitar Player video of you doing the whole song and it's really cool. Thanks.

Hello there, Mr.Huttlinger ! I'd just like to thank you for taking the time to make Truefire's 50 Fingerpicking Licks. It finally unlocked "Brown Bomber" for me. I've had your DVD "Arrangements for Solo Guitar" with you teaching Brown Bomber in its entirety for about a year, but I didn't think I could ever play it. Studying it in chunks (as the late great Buster B. Jones used to say) in 50 Licks, I now have all the fingerings down and I am working on gradually speeding it up. And since I say "Thanks, Pete" every time I turn it off, I thought I would actually say "Thanks" right here, so you'd know that every day you're helping a fingerpicker on the other side of the Atlantic! Gpd bless you, my friend.

Hey Pete, Having a great time working through your instructional videos. Really beautiful music. It would be a really great addition to your instructional library if you would consider an instructional video on James Taylor. Think about it. Hope all is well with you and pray for your continued recovery. My 59 y.o. brother just had a stroke and I have shared your story with him as an inspiration for his recovery. He really loves your music, and is doing much better having heard about your struggles and perseverance. You touch so many lives in so many ways. God Bless you and your family

Hi Pete, Glad to see your doing well with your health. Keep up the good healthy habits. Im wondering if you'll ever do another Dan Fogelberg and Gordon Lightfoot DVD. I think Jean Fogelberg would approve because you do such a great job with transcriptions. The songs I would like to see from both artist are - Dan Fogelberg: Crow, The Reach, Scarecrow, Last Nail, Nexus, Forefathers, Nature of the Game, Stars... Dan has so many more gems! Gordon Lightfoot: Beautiful, Shadows, Song for a winters night, Don Quixote, Minstral of the dawn, Leaves of grass, Summer side of life. Your DVD's are great Pete, and I hope you make many more. I have all your DVD's. Thanks for the great work you do - Salute! Dennis from CT.

Hi Pete, Glad that you are hanging in there after all that you have been through over the last few years. Have most of your Homespun DVD`s and hope that there will be more to come. Would love to see another Gordon Lightfoot disc; maybe including songs like Don Quixote, Restless, Pony Man, and more. How about something from James Taylor as well. And of course the late, great Doc Watson. God Bless You and Live Well.

Pete, I have been working through several of your downloads. I had a wonderful guitar teacher who taught me finger style when I was in my teens. I was a real fan of John Denver and learned his songs from the "An Evening with John Denver" songbook and CD. I saw him in concert twice and will never forget that experience. Unfortunately I didn't continue to pursue the guitar after that. My Mom and Dad had purchased a guitar for me they couldn't afford at the time and I played and learned JD's songs with that guitar. I kept it just for sentimental reasons even though I didn't play anymore. My Mom and Dad passed away this last year and I am 50 now. I had this desire to play again because my parents enjoyed hearing me play and it reminds me of good times with them and the sacrifice they made so I could learn to play. Anyway I found your website because I was looking at TrueFire and saw your 50 finger style licks. I was so amazed by your talent and the fact you played with JD. I saw your JD collection and started playing again. I so enjoyed being able to play the songs like he did. I ordered all your instructional downloads. I now have a second wonderful finger style instructor. You. Thanks so much for your video lessons and for bringing the enjoyment of acoustic guitar back for me. You are an amazing musician and composer and teacher. I would love to attend one of your camps, but not sure if my level of expertise is at a point of being able to keep up with you all there. I told my wife by this time next year I am going to be able to play "Catch and Release" flawlessly and then attend your camps. She listened to the song and loved it, but laughed and said, by next year huh? Good luck. So the bet is on. Thanks again and would love to see you in Concert if you ever consider coming to the South Bend, IN area. My wish for you and your family is a continued successful recovery for you and for the rest of us more of your inspiring instruction. May God bless you and your family through the love of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Kurt Richeson, Culver, IN

Hello Pete. I was so sorry to learn of your loss in Carl's death. I am one of the retired Forest Service camping group at Winfield. Carl wandered into our camp the year he was there. He entertained us with his humor and great spirit. We have often talked of his visit and of yours to our camp. Blessings to all of you. Hope to see you at the WVF soon.

Hi Pete, Met you Thursday night at Mighty Fine Guitars show. You were fantastic! I spoke to you about your mom whom my ex- husband worked with at Plus Financial and of your cousins whom I grew up with in Walnut Creek. My friend Ven who is an artist, sculptor, and brilliant composer, was so touched by you that he went home and wrote this poem for you. He is computer challenged so I told him I would try and get it to you somehow. Hope this works. You are truly an inspiration. ELECTRIC MAN There lives this electric man Hard wired to sound In perfect pitch And rhythms in bound Yet has neither heartbeat nor pulse A man in a total rush He is like the mathematic and love Before the big bang And he plays acoustically As heavenly angels in Naughty see-through gowns He is a man of the road Tied with little comfort Yet story-telling filled in stirring soul There lives this electric man With a smile at heavens gate Hands untied! Out-stretched Kneeling by the hearts of all men.

Hi Pete! Hope all is well. I'm a friend of Brian Henke and have seen you numerous times. I was involved with the early Woodchopper's Balls and had the privilege of seeing you and the other amazing musicians on many occasions. Awesome talent!
Was wondering when you're not touring if you're playing anywhere in Nashville. I ask because I'm going to be in Nashville next week on the 29th and 30th. If you're not playing on those days, feel free to send a recommendation on who I may want to see.
Have a blessed day Pete!
Best regards,

Unfortunately, I'm heading out of town on the 30th. I would recommend checking with the Nashville Scene and they have a good listing of what's happening in town.

Hello Pete. A big fan. I too have a heart issue and thought it might be the end of me 5 years ago. Fortunately we are here today and living in Nashville, a place I never thought I'd be. Went and saw Travis Tritt at the Franklin Theater last week and saw how simple songs can become so enhanced by embellishments and a great voice. What is your favorite song to play when it's just you and your guitar?
I don't actually have a favorite song to play. I guess it all depends on the mood I'm in and what I've been working on lately.
I'm so glad your heart issue is (apparently) getting better. Want to walk the Music City Marathon with me this coming April?

Hi Pete, I've been a fan of yours since you helped work out those Jim Croce arrangements on DVD. With that help, I've performed several Croce tribute shows (Croce is a personal favorite of mine), culminating in the tribute of all tributes that my band, "Maggie's Guitar" did recently at Upper Darby Performing Arts Center in Philadelphia. Upper Darby PAC is attached to the High School which Jim attended and we raised over $9,000 for a music scholarship in Jim's name there. Anyway, I wanted to write and say thanks for your help and also to ask if you've ever written out tabs for that fantastic "Superstition" arrangement of yours. If so, could you tell me where I could buy them so that I can spend the next six months learning it (LOL). All the very best, Ron Gletherow
